“Annie. There’s a big lobster behind the refrigerator. I can’t get it out.” So goes one of Woody Allen’s best lines in Annie Hall, during what turns out to be the film’s most charming date scene between Annie (Diane Keaton) and Alvy (Woody Allen).
We’re not surprised that a lobster holds the key to romantic kismet. From our experience, the best dates are usually the ones that feel spontaneous. It’s an art show you both find (inadvertently) funny; it’s a no-pressure, no-stakes outing.
Enter corny Holiday dates to screw all that up! Ok, so not always, but there is something about the kitschy, already couple-ridden Holiday arenas that makes things feel a little more forced. But if your Tinder date insists you do the ice rink thing, let us suggest an outfit that’ll make you feel at ease, even if you're awkward on the ice (tip: dark wash jeans that won't show the patches on your knees and butt where you repeatedly fell over).
Be the antithesis of the seasonal color spectrum by rocking mustard yellow; go to that sappy Holiday movie dinner date in a printed jumpsuit and some sneakers to chill things out.
Heading to the Christmas tree farm? Get ready for some mad squatting and chopping à la Paul Bunyan: out-lumberjack your date by rocking a power-clashing plaid look that feels a little less Brawny Man and a lot more Sex Pistols.
