We Put These Makeup Products Where They Don't Belong

And we're never going back.

share with your friends
This is the summer to push your makeup’s versatility to the max by doubling up their uses. That blood-orange eyeshadow? Meet your new favorite blush. That Marjorelle-blue eyeliner? Ready to moonlight as your next lip color. Think about it: you wouldn't limit your Stan Smiths to the tennis court, so why stop your go-to lipstick from venturing to new corners of your beautiful face?

We’ve put some of our favorite makeup products where they don’t belong, and the results are three festive, piña colada-inspired looks for your upcoming vacation. From an ‘80s-style palette that’s perfect for a day of sight-seeing, to a sparkling night look that's bound to end up on the dance floor, there’s just no better season than summer to turn your makeup habits on their head.

Power lips and glittering brows? Check. We've put together three shoppable makeup looks, complete with outfits, to one-up your summer swag:

Beginner: Eyes on Cheeks

How long have we been aboard the drape-train? Ever since Kenzo’s Spring 2017 collection featured the ’80s beauty look, sweeping a brick-red shade over the cheekbones and into the eyelids. This time, we’ve swapped an actual blusher for a red-orange eyeshadow. Build the color up for this look by gradually brushing up the eyeshadow from the cheekbones to the eyes in loose, circular motions. Finish off the look with an under-the-brow highlight and a bit of mascara. This is a makeup style that's both soft and statement-making, so we suggest rocking it with a simple, graphic jacket that has a vintage vibe.

Intermediate: Cheeks on Lips

For a look that’ll make you one-up the sunset, apply a matte yellow eyeshadow to your lids and lightly – very lightly – drape it onto your cheekbones, gradually blending it into a bubblegum-colored blusher centered on the apples of your cheeks. Now, for the makeshift lip color: moisturize and prime your lips with your foundation, pat the pink blush onto your pout, and finish-off by dabbing on a bit of gloss. Let your tropical color palette take center stage by throwing on a classic white t-shirt and a pair of metallic statement earrings.

Advanced: Eyes on Lips + Eyes on Brows

Rival the disco ball with a night look that would give Lizzie McGuire a run for her money. We used a gel pencil eyeliner to create a matte pout (apply a bit of blue eyeshadow for an extra matte finish) and created an ethereal gaze by applying a frosty shade of eyeshadow to the lids and waterline. We brushed a (near-microscopic) amount of yellow eyeshadow onto the cheeks to warm up the face, and finished off the look by swapping out a normal brow gel for a glittery, clear eyeliner that brings this look to full Ice Queen status. We suggest rocking a sheer black top or dress with floral embellishments – it’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream for 2017.
