Truly Terrifying Halloween Costumes Inspired By The U.S. Administration

So many monsters to choose from.

The past several months in politics have been a bit, shall we say, hellish? With increasingly disturbing headlines popping up every day — like the Trump's latest religiously-motivated attack on the birth control mandate, Jeff Session's religious interpretation of LGBTQ employment protections (starting to notice a pattern?), or the White House's latest scheme to build a border wall — we desperately need something to lift our spirits. Halloween spirits, that is.

October 31st is your chance to channel all your pent-up political fury through costume. With so many corrupt politicians to choose from, you'll have no problem creating a look that suitably mocks the representative responsible for your newly acquired Xanax prescription. Whether you're a progressive, conservative or just infuriatingly apathetic, you can fashion together a ghastly look that will up the fear-factor at any Fright Night bash, and maybe allow you to invoke a filibuster until someone buys you that candy corn-inspired cocktail.

Just don't make your outfit too good as people might want to confront you about protesting the right to protest, using your private email for White House business or casually throwing paper towels at desperate hurricane victims. The upside is that, even though we live in a world of questionable information, unless you watch Fox News, you'll know that these costumes are indeed fake.

The world's politicians are way more hair-raising than any fictitious, homicidal clown — so forget IT, Carrie or Freddy Krueger and dress up like a prominent figure from our own IRL horror show:

Ivanka Trump

If you're looking for a scary style that screams nepotism, look no further than Ivanka. This television personality, businesswoman and former teen model is now an official advisor to her father, the President of the United States of America. We're not sure what qualifies her to help run our country, but we can tell it sure pays to be the president's daughter.

To get the look, don a long, blond wig with a center-part, modest high-necked midi dress, ten coats of mascara and some statement earrings to really nail her modern, yet actually regressively traditional, feminine look. You could also put an ironic twist on your Ivanka costume by adding in a pink pussy hat

Donald Trump

Though you probably loathe seeing his face on your social media stream, Donald Trump has been a standard on the Halloween costume scene for years. The difference this time around is that instead of just choosing between ugly face masks, you can now buy a "sexified" version of Trump's suit, tie and emblematic combover wig. There really are upgrades when you become president! Alternatively, seek out the most ridiculous, oversized (and not in a good way) '80s suit and comically large tie you can find from your local op shop, add in a permanent, pursed-lipped scowl for those #insta-ween selfies and you're ready to run the country.

mike pence

This quiet sideshow of a vice president may look innocent enough, but many people say that he'd be even scarier than Trump if he were in charge. It's surprisingly not hard to believe considering Pence's political record is staunchly anti-immigrantanti-LGBTQanti-women and generally anti-fun

Pence is the perfect candidate for a low-key costume that still somehow sends shivers down your spine. Grab a suit jacket from the back of your dad's closet, a block-color tie from a second-hand giveaway pile and a coiffed white wig to go trick-or-treating as the political-equivalent of Voldemort. Or, you could go to town on pulling together an outfit from Pence's nightmares, by adding in fabulous accessories from pro-LGBTQ, pro-human rights charities that both give a comic edge to your look and aid in undoing some of the VP's wrongs.

Vladimir Putin

While Vladimir Putin isn't an American politician, he's definitely a mainstay in this administration's headlines. When not colluding to influence U.S. elections, Putin serves up some shirtless, chain-laden propaganda looks that beg to be your Halloween get-up. Clothe yourself in camo pants, a ripped abs t-shirt, heavy jewelry and go steal some votes for that costume contest.

Fake News

While this costume doesn't exactly look terrifying, its implications for the foundations of our democracy sure are. Fortunately, instead of having to create your own fake news apparel from a pile of Breitbart internet clippings, Yandy.com has released its own provocative version in the form of a printed mini-dress. Pile on the lies with some temporary hair-dye, press-on nails and false eyelashes. You might even consider going by a different name for the evening.

Hillary Clinton

Some people may think Hillary Clinton is the anti-christ, but in comparison to her political counterparts, she's as tame as her signature pantsuit. Rockin' a Hilldawg-inspired ensemble is the way to go if, like most of America, you still can't wrap your head around the 2016 election outcome. Put on a double-breasted, solid color pantsuit (a bright hue is a plus), pearl stud earrings and a short blonde bob wig to create a bone-chilling reminder of the president we could have had instead.
