7 Things You Must Know Before Getting Your Mermaid Hair On

Ready, set, PASTEL HAIR.

You may think that mermaid hair isn't for everyone, not only because it's a bold style, but also because some of us are just naturally less gifted when it comes to looking after our manes. Hair coloring is a precise science and any salon goer will tell you there is a lot of upkeep between appointments.

But unicorn hair is SO BEAUTIFUL. So, we rounded up all our best tips pertaining to said unicorn hair to hopefully make you feel ready to take the plunge into that colorful life.

Here we go:
- Dry shampoo is your friend. Your color will fade with each wash, so use dry shampoo to space out your washes and make your rich color last even longer.

- It's not just marketing. Use shampoo and conditioner specially formulated for bleached or dyed hair. It really will help your color last longer but also help protect your hair now that it's even more prone to damage.

- If you're not ready for a big commitment, the brand Manic Panic uses a base of vegetable dye which means it won't stay around longer than two washes. They have the biggest range of colors too, so have fun switching it up between Blue Steel , Cotton Candy Pink and Siren's Song.

- This may sound condescending but ALWAYS wear the plastic gloves provided. No one wants blue hands for the next three days.

- Much like your beach towels, the sun can bleach out and fade the color of your hair so try and avoid it if poss, but if not, a spray in protection product could help you out.

- Bumble & Bumble's spray chalk only lasts one wash, so if you're looking to change up your look for a big event and then come back down to earth again after, this could be the solution for you.

- If you're in a pinch or really want a wild color that is hard to find, chalk from the craft store can also do the trick - just don't expect it to stay around for too long (or be very good for your hair).
