There Is A Shade Of Pink For Every Occasion

PSA: pink is the new pink.

share with your friends
Pink has gone through some bizarre phases in its history: first its strong association with gender, bouncing between both boys and girls. Then its defining of a certain type of woman... which in itself quickly became a negative thing (see: Aqua's Barbie Girl). For years people moved away from the color and the stereotypes associated with it. The rise of punk and, subsequently, grunge, goth and emo, put black, red and the navy blues of disheveled denim in the spotlight. And then, finally, we all got woke and realized what an amazing color we'd been missing out on, so now it's back in a big way. No more gender divides. No more passé prejudices. Donatella Versace herself dubbed blush pink "the new white" and the fashion set lost. their. stuff, bringing the shade very much back into the fold and causing such a style epidemic it was re-branded as "millennial pink." From rose gold and pastel to flamingo and neon shades, pink is back and it's here to stay.

Everybody agrees: the likes of Gigi Hadid and Selena Gomez have been caught rocking head-to-toe looks lately, Zara dropped a hot pink collection earlier this year that sold out in a matter of days – likewise Missguided's recent collab with Barbie herself. Just look in your own closet – we're certain that you'll have at least one salmon-y sock lurking somewhere.

With so many shades lining your favorite stores to indulge in, we have taken it upon ourselves to create in an unofficial guide to which pinks to wear when. As far as we're concerned, there is no occasion that couldn't be improved with a touch of blush or a dash of magenta.

Check out our guide to rocking pink for every occasion and shop everything you need to ensure you're sporting a shade every day of the week:

Millennial Pink For Work

First off, the big one: millennial pink. This light shade has just a hint of dustiness to it, making it easy to style with classic black, white and gray pieces as well as other nude tones like beige, cream and brown. The pared-back palette makes it perfect for the office. Both feminine (if you read into that sort of thing) and statement-making, look out for blazers, cropped pants and satin blouses in the generation-defining hue.

Magenta For Parties

This show-stopping shade is ideal for a girl's night out. Go bright or go home is the rule of thumb when it comes to magenta. Think statement jumpsuits and bodycon dresses to really draw focus. Don't be afraid to lace in a few firey red accessories for a bit of runway-inspired colorblocking, or tone it down with silver jewelery.
