This New Series Is Bold For So Many Reasons

Are you The Bold Type?

Somewhere between Hilary Duff's Younger (except even more millennial somehow) and classic romcoms likeThe Devil Wears Prada and How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days, Freeform's latest show, The Bold Typeemerges. In just four episodes, this new series has positioned itself as a force to be reckoned with – and one that almost every 20-something woman can relate to.

Centered around three ambitious young women living and working in New York City, The Bold Type tells the story of the trials and tribulations of their rise to success at Scarlet Magazine, a women's lifestyle and fashion publication loosely based on Cosmopolitan. You don't need us to spell out why we're big fans of this show.

The main characters – Sutton, Jane and Kat – are all best friends who began working at Scarlet straight out of college. Kat is the Social Media Director for the magazine and is in a same-sex romance that the Internet is already shipping hard, while Jane was just hired as a full-time writer and is being assigned topics well outside of her comfort zone. Finally, there's Sutton: she begins the show as an assistant but given her ability to grab life by the horns, it's clear she won't be in the position for much longer.

In essence, the show is the perfect summer drama for anyone who loves fashion, feminism, magazines and romance. Plus, for a hit TV show set in the New York offices of an international fashion magazine, you can imagine that the leading ladies rock some stylish on-screen outfits.

Re-defining business-formal, Sutton, Jane and Kat are seen wearing everything from off-the-shoulder tops and pleated leather skirts to striped, cut-out rompers and crisp dresses – not to mention the on-point accessories. The costume department alone is worth tuning in for every Tuesday.
