Old Taylor May Be Dead But The New One Has Badass Style

Look what she made us do.

You don’t need us to tell you that Taylor Swift is back. After a social media blackout that caused an online frenzy followed by a series of cryptic videos of snakes and the new album art for her upcoming album, Reputation (which seems to riff on the aesthetics of Fenty x Puma), the singer dropped her new track, Look What You Made Me Do

As we’ve seen everyone do recently, from industry sweetheart Ed Sheeran to Taylor’s very own arch nemesis, Katy Perry, the first visual exposure to the new sound (confusing, right?) was a lyric video that made it even harder to resist chanting along as the New Taylor sings the chorus to the tune of Right Said Fred’s 1992 hit I’m Too Sexy

Just four days later, the Grammy winner unveiled the official video during the 2017 VMA ceremony. If the song itself wasn’t confirmation enough that this is a whole new side to Taylor, the video will leave you with no doubts. Not only is every possible moment of screen time a jab at someone who’s done Taylor wrong – made all the sweeter by Katy Perry actually being the host of this year’s VMAs – but throughout it she also mocks and denounces her past selves: from her early days on the Fearless Tour through to references 1989’s Shake It Off and Bad Blood. As the song itself points out, the Old Taylor is absolutely dead.

Through all the name-calling, finger-pointing and not-so-subtle references to certain other pop queens, we see the singer explore some of the edgier areas of her closet. Not only is it a badass collection of pieces, but an excellently curated selection of designers.

From the Balmain dress she wears while sitting on her throne of snakes (is that another poke at the Kardashians?) to the Vetements x Levi’s collab jeans she rocks while straddling a motorbike with what looks like a replacement squad, it’s clear to see that Taylor has seriously upped her sartorial game to accompany her sixth studio album.

Taylor may have a bathtub full of diamonds, but not all of us can afford to splash out over $5,000 on a patent leather Balenciaga cape, so we’ve pulled together a selection of lookalike pieces, as well as the real-deals, so you can recreate your favorite Taylor personality from the Look What You Made Me Do video, whatever your budget. If you haven't already, watch the video and then scroll down to see what Taylor's wearing, and where to get the same look for less.
