Simple Styling Tricks To Make The Most Of Your Tattoos This Summer

Show some ink.

share with your friends
One of the best things about warm weather is peeling back the layers and feeling the sun on our skin – a double bonus for people with tattoos is that they get to show off their ink, too.

Whether you have two full sleeves of flowers or the subtlest calligraphic quote sprawled across your collarbone, there are plenty of ways to work your summer closet to draw attention to your skin.

Check out our top tips for making the most of your tattoos this summer and shop our selections of ink-enhancing outfits:

On the arms

A sleeve or half-sleeve tattoo is a fairly easy one to make the most of, just wear sleeveless things, right? That’s a good start, of course, but if you really want to draw focus, try wearing contrasting colors and avoiding patterns to allow your arms to do the talking: think ecru and nude tones against black ink. Cap and flutter sleeve details at your shoulder will also entice the eye to your upper arms (and flatter them, too!).

On The Ribs

Many people opt for a rib placement because it’s fairly hidden away, which can certainly make it tricky to be the focal point of your outfit. Stick to halter necks and loose-fitting muscle tanks that will show a flash of flesh as you move about.

On The Shoulders and Collarbones

If your tattoo is around your shoulders, neck or nape then you chose wisely: off-the-shoulder styles are still going strong as one of summer’s biggest trends. Pick from any number of the beautiful Bardot designs on offer – or choose a cami with a barely there spaghetti strap if you want something a little more secure. Scoop necks and bolero blouses will work wonders to frame your chest tats.

On The thighs

Summer is basically the only season where it’s hot enough to show off your thigh tattoo, so make the most of it by sticking strictly to shorts and skirts! If you’re attending an event (or stuck in the office) that requires you to cover up, try a midi dress or skirt with a high slit that your legs can poke out from when you walk.

On The Feet and Ankles

There are so many great ways to show off an ankle or foot tattoo, and one of them just so happens to be our favorite type of shoe: the mule. The backless design will naturally draw attention to your heel, and picking up a metallic or sequinned design that will glimmer in the sunshine will double the amount of heads you turn. Alternatively, try an elegant D’Orsay style, which is cut out in the middle – perfect for underlining a sentimental quote or spiralling foot tattoo.
