Shield Your Ears With These Fashionable, Trump-Proof Pieces

The President's press conference was a rhetorical disaster.

It should have been a pretty standard, no-fuss event. Instead, yesterday's White House press conference became an uncomfortable soap-box for Trump to voice his frustrations with what he has dubbed "the mainstream media."

Rather than shift our gaze towards a very real development in the President's administration, such as his nomination for Secretary of Labor, Alexander Acosta (which Trump briefly mentioned), the event started to feel like a highly inappropriate, self-induced pity-party. "I'm not ranting and raving," he said to the reporters listening in silence. "I'm just telling you, you're dishonest people... I've inherited a mess."

The President had a difficult time supporting his statements with concrete evidence and, when he did attempt to cite numbers regarding his electoral college votes, for example, well, that evidence turned out to be false. "I'm really not a bad person, by the way," he said "No, but the tone [of the media] is such – I do get good ratings, you have to admit that – the tone is such hatred."

It was a lot like watching someone fail while playing Cards Against Humanity. When the floor eventually opened up for questions, it became unsurprisingly clear that Trump would not just have the "nice reporters" he said he deserves (it is unclear what the President means by "nice" reporter, but we can infer that it includes one with a bias towards overlooking the "hiccups" his administration has had). Instead, the message was clear: You think you inherited a mess? Well then, it's time to put on your big-boy pants, and clean it up.
