What Do You Get When You Cross Your Shoe Closet With Your Jewelry Box?

Answer: Gucci and Miu Miu.

Over the past few sartorial seasons we’ve seen OTT embellishments snowball into a major trend: from Mulberry’s surreal peak-a-boo decorations and the Prada-esque feather finishes we’ve been seeing everywhere, to the vintage-style beaded and embroidered clutch bags that emerged earlier this summer. But if there’s one material for bedazzlement that’s captured the fashion set’s attention in particular, it’s pearls.

Last year’s pearl-speckled jeans trend has hit back with a vengeance since the forecast has taken a turn for the worst, and it’s not just denim that has had the treatment this time around: everything from sweatsuits to evening dresses and, in particular, footwear, has been covered in luminescent clusters of the orbs.

In particular, Miu Miu’s furry slides with pearly detailing became a huge hit over the summer, with Gucci’s more subtle but still flamboyant booties and loafers trailing slightly behind as a craze that took off more with celebs than bloggers. With the season’s change comes certain schedule changes, too, meaning it’s back to school, back to work or, in any case, back to cold, miserable weather for most of us. Meaning fluffy footwear is limited to indoor use only and your everyday outfits need to a new way to end on a high note.

Lately we’ve been seeing a strong selection of grown-up, pearl-embellished shoes that are the perfect antidote to a starched dress code. Finish off your regulation shirt and tailored pencil skirt with a lustrous loafer, or liven up a monochrome suit with a pair of pastel slingbacks that conceal a row of hidden treasures beneath the heel. We love how a casual, plain black ankle boot can be elevated to formalwear with the application of a few semi-spheres – but not all of us can afford to wear diamonds and pearls on the soles of our shoes, so we've dived into the new-season collections of our favorite stores to bring you the next-best-thing.

Add a quirky touch of glamor to any work or evening outfit with a pearl-embellished piece of footwear for fall:
