Paris Street Style: Serious Statement Earrings For Summer

A new kind of "je ne sais quoi."

Every week, we take to the streets of Paris to photograph and chat with the women and men whose sartorial instincts we’d love to steal. Meet the people who are turning the Parisian sidewalks into runways – and find out everything you need to get their look.

We were making our way through the summer drizzle on the Avenue de l'Opera and dreaming of a warm bowl of pho at our favorite Vietnamese restaurant in the neighborhood when we ran into Bérénice, with her bold blue-and-candy-apple-red earrings and unique style. We've been seeing this particular shade of vibrant coral everywhere this summer (the Alexandra Red Star wrap dress, anyone?) but styling the color in the form of statement accessories with a monochrome outfit felt like a fresh take on minimalism for summer. With her Japanese-inspired silhouette and streetwear-approved high socks, this Parisienne-turned-Genevan artist has created her own take on that ineffable je-ne-sais-quoi that French girls are known to possess – and given us major jewelry inspo as we impatiently await the launch of her jewelry line.

What is your name and where are you from?
My name is Bérénice, I'm from Paris but currently living in Geneva, and I'm an illustrator and jewelry designer.

Why did you choose to wear this outfit today?
I like mixing pieces with different types of fabrics and materials as well as finding recycled clothes. Slow fashion is important to me, buying things secondhand... I hate dressing in Zara and H&M because there's no meaning behind it. For example, the dress I'm wearing looks like a piece from the Barcelona brand Paloma Wool, except I actually bought it at Emmaüs, a thrift store here in Paris.

How would you describe your personal style?

Graphic. I see the silhouettes formed by clothing as drawings or paintings.

Are you wearing any pieces or accessories that are of special significance or that carry a story behind it?
The earrings are my own design and logo, and I found the jacket in a little thrift store when I was traveling in Spain.

Where did you get your outfit?
The robe is from the thrift store Emmaüs in Paris, the jacket I bought in Spain, the green crossbody bag is by Marcel Marongiu, the shoes are Dr. Martens – I've had [them] since I was 15 – the orange magic bag is from Tintamar and the rings are from my grandmother, she got one from a boutique at the Louvre and the other one in Asia.
