Are You Bold Enough To Try This New Shoe Trend From Céline?

One shoe, two shoe, red shoe, blue shoe.

There was a lot to take away from the Céline SS17 show: the International Klein Blue accents, the Anastasia-style sunglasses, the draped, cape-like shoulder decorations, the impeccable selection of handbags – the list goes on. But there was one accessory that won out: the shoes.

Among the gloriously block-colored selection of simple, elegant flats and mid-heels, we couldn’t help but notice that a handful of models were wearing shoes in two different colors. One woman wore one black and one white wrap-around sandal, another was in black and yellow. But the stand-out moment had to be the penultimate look from the show, where the model wore one red and one white ankle boot styled with a bubblegum pink dress that completed the color chart.

While runway styling is often left on the runway, we’ve recently found ourselves erring towards more daring day-to-day wear. When the ad campaign for the collection dropped back in January, there was that look again, taunting us with its playful, adventurous aesthetic. But then we started seeing bloggers and influencers trying out the look in real life and we’ finally gave in. We want to try it, too.

We recommend splitting the bill with your BFF by each of you picking up a pair of the same shoes in a different color and swapping one before you leave the store – just make sure you’re the same size, of course!

No matter how you style this look, it’s going to make a statement. Either go the whole hog, by layering on the clashing patterns and OTT accessories so that your miss-matched feet are barely noticeable in the cacophony of color and texture, or do the total opposite: pair them with an understated outfit in a simple color palette so your feet really are the focal point. Make sure you keep your look polished so people know your footwear choice was purposeful.
