While summer was a festival of straw bags, embroidered loafers and tinted shades, winter 2017 is already shaping up to have its own set of must-have, cold-weather accessories.
One that has been taking over the blogosphere and featured in every Fashion Week street style selection is the newsboy hat. With temperatures plummeting, a hat is essential for not only keeping your head warm, but your hair in check and the rain out of your face (and away from your makeup). But the days of the floppy, boho fedora or the skate-chic rib-knit beanie are over: this season is all about the soft-on-the-top, peaked-at-the-front retro style.
It’s no surprise that the newsboy hat (AKA the bakerboy hat, AKA the fisherman hat) has made a comeback along with many mid-century throwback styles we’ve seen emerging lately. What’s great about this style is that no matter whether your hair is long and straight or wide and curly, it sits perfectly atop your locks without them awkwardly flicking out, poking out or needing to be tucked in.
For serious vintage vibes, pick up a navy blue cap and pair if with an earthy outfit in as much corduroy as you can muster. Alternatively, make like Kaia Gerber and finish off a contemporary statement look with a vinyl version.
