Kim Kardashian West's latest look from a recent outing may have created an unlikely new summer trend that brings athleisure to a whole new level. On her way to a photoshoot at Steven Klein Studio she sported a plain white ribbed tank top and Adidas sports shorts paired with strappy silver stilettos.

After all, what is fashion if you can't add fancy or unexpected touches to everything from the simplest to the most extravagant outfit? Who can forget Kim's sister Kendall on the Cannes red carpet earlier this year rocking a pair of denim cut-offs under a trailing black number. While our team is debating whether this kooky, sporty look from the OG Kardashian sister is a yay or a nay, we all agree that it's a fun way to push the boundaries of athleisure with a normcore twist.

One aspect of the outfit we were particularly piqued by is how Kim's legs are elongated by the thigh-hitting hem of the shorts and the barely-there sandals that give plenty of room for her pins to shine.

As with every tricky trend, the key is balance: stick to shoes in muted tones like nude or black for a flashy pair of shorts, or try a more colorful sandal for a simple black or white bottom. Take care to make sure this outfit looks deliberate, rather than like you've just left a yoga session and switched your sneakers for stilettos. The whole idea is that everything, though contrasting in style, coordinates and is well-considered: pick out textural details with each element, like the way Kim has referenced the Adidas stripes with her ribbed tank, and the lustre texture of the shorts with the metallic shoes.

While no one can say for sure whether this is going to be the biggest trend of the season, someone's got to be the first to do it. Just wait until Bella copies the style, and you'll be grateful you already gave it a go.
