This Hair Trend Is Still Going Strong

And it's easy to do on your own.

Remember hair crimping’s big comeback last year ? Well, the trend is still having a moment: it popped up in Manish Arora and Gucci’s SS 17 collections during fashion week, proving once again that our flatirons contain hidden depths worth exploring.

Millenials like Ariana Grande and Gigi Hadid have adopted the trend in its full, unabashed 2003-throwback glory: we’re talking the all-over crimp, the I sleep with my head in a George Foreman grill effect. While we dig their homages to famous crimped beauties like Britney and Mariah, the look can be time-consuming to create.

That’s why we’re so in love with crimping’s evolution. The trend has gone from all-consuming, to piecing just a few waffled strands in a tight ponytail, or mixing it in with tiny braids. It's edgy, but simple. It can feel romantic or sporty (depending on your hair-teasing preferences). Whatever the level of waffle-like coverage, the goal is to create an textured element of interest in your locks.

In order to crimp safely and successfully, follow these instructions:

1. Apply a heat-protective serum to dry hair.
2. If you have a crimping iron, know that around 125 degrees celsius should be hot enough to get things crinkling (but not cracking). And please, ladies, be gentle on your hair! Don't tug, just clamp and release. If you're not blessed with a crimping wand, try sleeping in super tight (or loose, if you want a less-intense look) braids (let them your hair dry a little bit beforehand). The next morning, unravel and style your newly crimped tresses.

We rounded up some of the best-crimped goddesses (from present-day and yesteryear) to get you in the mood.
