We're Obsessed With This Gucci-Approved Transitional Piece

Summer cool and back to school.

share with your friends
August is the summer’s final hurrah: your last chance to flaunt that perfect cotton cover-up on the beach, or to wear your favorite barely-there mini-dress to death before school, work and Fashion Week envelop you in the new season’s must-haves. The Blair Waldorf prepsters already can’t wait to start wrapping themselves up in autumnal knits, while those of us who are experiencing separation anxiety cling fiercely to our transitional attire – luckily, there are certain breezy pieces that are just as cool for summer as they are chic when we’re taking them back to school. Which explains why printed silk shirts à la Gucci are our current sartorial obsession.

If reading the word “Gucci” just reminded you of how unprepared you are to drop $1,300 on a tiger-print sablé chemise, don’t worry: there are plenty of reasons to love this look – and affordable ways to adopt it. First off, there’s nothing like a luxe pattern to take you fashionably from summer to fall. Wear your all-over print blouse with a denim skirt and a pair of pastel mules for those warm-weather vibes, and switch to a pair of flared jeans and ankle boots with transparent heels (hello Chanel couture!) for a vintage-inspired, contemporary-chic look once the air becomes more crisp. Look out for pussybow necklines and muted colors for an added element of nostalgia.

Another key to making this style work for both frolicking around Florence and dressing up your daily commute? Choosing the right fabric. Of course, our favorite Gucci looks (read: all of them) are all fabricated with 100% Italian silk, but that isn’t the only way to master the look. Any silk blend or light crepe fabric will make for an excellent breathable layer for late summer and give you a polished AF finish for that back-to-life-back-to-reality early fall feel. Whether you’re a power-clashing, Gigi-Hadid-on-the-cover-of-Vogue fashionista, or a subtle polka dot kind of gal, there’s a printed button-down out there for you.
