Simple Styling Tips To Elongate Your Legs Through Fall

Look fierce and stay warm.

After the crop tops, mini skirts and floaty dresses of summer, it’s easy to feel swaddled by your cold-weather closet. But dressing for fall doesn’t have to compromise on style for warmth – with simple balancing acts and styling tips you can make even a cardboard box a covetable component of your fall look book, just ask Jeremy Scott

While you can try your best to slip on a stocking underneath your favorite patchwork denim mini, we’re certain that at some point in the coming weeks you’ll find yourself pulling on a pair of pants, reluctantly or not. However, the cropped, pleated designs of summer will provide about as much insulation as the aforementioned jean skirt, so you’ll need to delve into the cotton, wool and even corduroy (if you’re a dedicated Vetements fan) departments.

To maintain the same elongated silhouette that a bare leg would have easily created during the summer, you need to look out for the perfect high-waisted, wide-leg cut. While a hip-hugging skinny jean might flatter your curves, the way it hits above the ankle abruptly ends the outfit and, while it may not serve to shorten your overall aesthetic, it won’t lengthen you, either. Instead, a sleek, loose-fitting cuff hitting below the ankle and exposing the toes of a colorful ankle boot or bedazzled sneaker will convince onlookers that your legs are nine feet long (confusingly).

If the fabric is a heavy weave, like a tweed or a cord, opt for a slimmer cut, whereas lighter cottons and wools will look great in everything from a boot cut to a full-on palazzo. Keep the darker or bolder elements of your outfit to your lower half, too, to add an air of floatiness to your torso: an autumn-approved palette of "Lemon Curry" or "Tawny Port" or a humbug stripe on your trousers will stretch you even further.

Take a leaf out of Selena Gomez’s book and tuck in a graphic sweater for a fun-but-polished finish, or go for a Gucci-style touch with a billowing pussybow blouse and a FW17 must-have plaid blazer
