VP Pence Wants To Come To Our Next LGBTQ Dance Party

He just doesn't know it yet.

Staying politically informed these days means combatting an especially strange breed of Trump conservatism (case in point: the anti-press press conference the President gave last month), and one that finds particular resonance for the LGBTQ community in the form of Vice President Mike Pence. The Indiana native has been very vocal about his anti-LGBTQ beliefs, and that’s why it was so fabulous to see grassroots activists WERK for Peace hold a giant party in front of his house in January.

Now, with the administration posing new threats to transgender people and allegations coming in about Pence’s use of his own private e-mail account to discuss state affairs, we think it’s high time to have another rager in front of Daddy Pence’s house, and he better get used to receiving our Facebook invites not matter how many times he declines, because there’s just nothing more fabulous than inclusivity.

So, with the potential for another party at Pence's place, it got us thinking: what would we wear to the next one? And, even more deliciously, what would Daddy Pence be rocking?

We chatted with Mimi Brand, an L.A.-based transgender woman and recent law graduate, about how dance can be a powerful tool for change and activism, what she thinks Pence ought to wear to the next rager for equality, and how she practices self-care.

"You get to be yourself," she said about the cathartic nature of dance, "but you also get to lose yourself in something with tons of other beautiful humans. So there’s this escapism where you don’t have to deal with the crappy aspects of reality, because you’re embracing something wonderful that’s going on: a dance party. Then there’s the dancing itself, which [has] lots of layers of to it: it’s a performance that lets you both express yourself and be yourself in ways that you normally can’t, like, for example, waving your arms weirdly. It’s a very freeing activity. Straight up endorphins, exercise and social contact are really important tools for keeping yourself sane."

"[Pence] would look great in silver nipple clips, frankly," Brand said when asked about Pence’s potential party attire. "With leather pants? Yeah. But also, I would ask the question, ‘Why is he going to the party?’ Is he repenting? Is he trying to scope out the enemy? Is he [there] on the DL?" In the event that Pence accepts our (hypothetical) invitation, we explained, WTG hopes it’s because he’s opened his robo-heart and come round to the notion of equality. "If that’s the case, I don’t know – I kind of think he wants to wear a silver, sparkly dress. I do think silver is the way to go – if Pence wants to come to the ball, he’d want to wear a tiara, and like, long gloves. He’s just become Vice President! This is his debutant moment, his coming-out ball."

Now, to roll up our sleeves and get deep in Daddy Pence’s sartorial potential for the party, WTG’s first instinct was to single out a style that reflected the politician’s tightly wound character: BDSM chic. Pence need look no further than the creations of talented erotic jewelry designer Bethany Vernon; the American craftswoman’s silver nipple clamps and a chokers would compliment his silver trusses and catch the moonlight perfectly as he mounts a Prius when, as Miley says, "a Britney song comes on." If he’s feeling particularly patriotic he could pull a Kendall Jenner and layer a stars-n-stripes bra over a mesh top.

And, of course, he'd be rocking some Marc Jacobs. The designer has long been an ally of the LGBTQ community, and has been vocal in the importance of standing against Trump and his nefarious policies. Personally, we see ourselves in some kind of rainbow confection, whether in the form of a sequined leotard and a "Make America Gay Again" cap, or a ‘90s-inspired, striped dress with fuzzy orange heels.
