How To Work Crayola's New Color Into Your Closet

Blue-ty is in the eye of the beholder.

Vibrant colors have been all the rage lately. From millennial pink (AKA a blush), which has effectively defined a generation, to the recently-dubbed, dazzlingly bright "gen-z yellow" and the rainbow of shades dominating the blogosphere, stepping out in a bold hue is almost a necessity in order to be seen nowadays.

So playful are the trending color palettes, the kid in us couldn't help but be excited about the new Crayola color: Bluetiful. The fun, punny name won by popular online vote, beating out four other possible names by a whopping 40% (perhaps Beyoncé's Blue Ivy had something to do with it?). Bluetiful is a brilliant blue based on a pigment called YImMndiscovered by Oregon State University chemists in 2009 (for all you science-nistas, the name YInMn is a combination of the color's elements: yttrium, indium, manganese and oxygen). And, while blue is typically associated with being sad, this energetic shade is anything but depressing.

Blue has always been a favorite color of Americans (shockingly, even millennials), so why not punch it up a notch and go electric with your blue pieces? You could follow the monochromatic trend and dress head-to-toe in all things cerulean – including those ubiquitous suede shoes. Or really bring the drama and finish your all-blue ensemble with an equally stunning white pump. To add just a touch of color, accessorize with a choker necklace, a statement clutch bag or an adorable ankle sock to poke out from under your pants. And if you're not super keen on this spirited shade, you could take it undercover and dress in a chromatic lingerie set that will bring out the little blue devil in you.

"Bluetiful" isn't just for the coloring book. Celebrate the new hue on the block and serve up a blue plate special via your wardrobe:
