These Are The Sunglasses You Need To Accessorize Like An It-Girl

According to Bella, Kendall and Riri.

From Gucci's epic rainbow sneakers to Vetements' neon yellow outfit accents, the fashion set can't stop, won't stop with the colors this summer – and that includes the lenses of their shades. This throwback, Mary-Kate-and-Ashley-in-Billboard-Dad-approved trend is currently experiencing its own fully-fledged moment in the sun. Between Selena Gomez's pink sunglasses last summer (with a total of 4.3 million Instagram likes to date) to the recent launch of Gigi Hadid's red, blue and orange-tinted Vogue Eyewear line, colored lenses have re-emerged as one of this season's must-have accessories among Hollywood's trendsetting It-girls.

So what exactly does this look – which is tacky at worst, and streetwise at best – have on more traditional alternatives? First off, there's no denying the appeal of a good fashion reference. OG pop legends from Britney Spears to *NSYNC rocked tinted lenses in both ultra-tiny and aviator styles, unironically, back in the MTV glory days, and before that, fashionistas of the '50s popularized the trend in the form of extreme cat-eyed frames. There's also the fact that whether you love it or hate it, bright, pop-y sunnies pack an immediate punch, they are practically an outfit in and of themselves, whether you're channeling chem-lab goggles or Kurt Cobain frames. And who wouldn't like to see the world through rose (or yellow, or orange, or blue) tinted glasses once in a while – it's like applying a non-permanent Instagram filter to your eyes.

Whether you're still not sure about embracing your inner Bono or are inspired to try this possibly-tacky-but-totes-trending style statement, check out how your favorite style stars are making their colors work for them and shop our selection of tinted lenses below:
