Brigitte Bardot did it. Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss did it. Bella Hadid did it. Kendall Jenner did it (in homage to Paris Hilton doing it). It’s time you dress up like a disco ball in sparkling chainmail.
It may have been nearly a year since Kendall caused a sensation by stepping out in a barely there cowl-neck party dress on her 21st birthday, but with the proliferation of ‘70s trends and the many celebrations of the era-defining Studio 54 nightclub’s 40th anniversary, the popularity of disco was only ever going to increase. While it was the music that defined the culture, it would be nothing without the vibrant outfits that were shimmied on the dance floor. One trend in particular that we can't resist is the dazzling, metallic statement look.
Whether you’re in the Kendall camp and want to slip into a sparky mini dress with matching accessories, or would rather go down the powerhouse girl band route and pair an iridescent halter neck with distressed jeans and rhinestone stilettos, this trend is too much fun not to try.
If you’d really rather take a run-up, slip a chain bralette over your favourite block-colored ruffle shirt, or even just a graphic tee for an all-eyes-on-me statement daytime look. Alternatively, accessorize with a pair of slinky diamond-shaped drop earrings and a co-ordinating clutch – just make sure it comes with a strap so you can let loose on the dance floor without having to awkwardly tuck it under your arm.
