Styling Tips to Enhance Your Look According To Balenciaga

It's actually really easy.

Demna Gvasalia, the cult designer who injected new life the historic fashion house Balenciaga, always has a styling trick up his sleeve. In his debut collection for the brand, he made giant laundry bags chic, caused the puffer jacket frenzy and lead the way for the thigh-high boots trend (which latterly became the leggings-that-turn-into-boots trend). Obviously, credit also goes out to stylist Lotta Volkova, who frequently collaborates with Balenciaga and has also taken the industry by storm for her off-kilter take on dressing.

For his FW17 collection, Gvasalia presented a new approach to power-dressing by blending elements of a grand dame's wardrobe with youthful, edgy twists. We also loved the use of color pairings and prints taken from the house's own archive. However, not only will the collection not become available to buy until fall, but we're not millionaires (though we are hoping to be by then). Nevertheless, the runway is full of inspiring style tips that you can take note of to freshen up a drab wool jacket or evening dress that you already have.

When in doubt, double it up. Our favorite tip from this collection is to style your corset belt with a skinnier design to create a cool new shape on a tailored button-up. If you'd rather ease yourself into the belted look, pick one out with a double row of holes for a more defined waistline.

When it comes to accessories, one thing is clear: get big, and then get bigger. Don't shy away from showing off your bling. A chunky cuff, chain or, better yet, double-finger ring is the perfect way to add wow-factor to any simple outfit.

A true dame would never leave her home without a scarf. While we might expect Gvasalia and Volkova to fashion their scarves Babushka-style or around the neck, this season we saw them everywhere but. One twisted, printed design doubled up as a bag handle, while another was tied around the wrist as a bracelet. But our favorite trick had to be the scarf that was intertwined with a chunky necklace.

Of course the gigantic bag brigade did make an appearance on the runway this season, but we are crazy about the mini bags from the show. They were simple, monochrome clutches in curious designs: think wing-mirrors and studded metal cases. We guess the styling trick here is pick up random objects and embrace them as must-have It-bags. Who care's if you can't actually put anything in them?
