5 Accessories To Steal From The Emmys Red Carpet

From blue ribbons to mismatched heels.

Last night, comedian Stephen Colbert hosted the 69th Primetime Emmy Awards (AKA the Oscars for TV). As usual, it was a star-studded affair – made even more so this year thanks to the slew of movie actors crossing over onto the small screen, such as Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Robert DeNiro and Oprah. It was these big names who starred in some of the top mini-series and made-for-TV films of 2017.

HBO's Big Little Lies came out on top, winning a total of eight awards, alongside Hulu's The Handmaid's Tale, which won five. Veep and Atlanta swept up in the comedy categories with Donald Glover making history and headlines for being the first black person ever to win Best Director of a Comedy Series and also the first person in over 30 years to win an acting award for a show they directed.

Given how politically challenging many of the nominated shows are, including the dystopian The Handmaid's Tale and the Netflix series House of Cards – and don't even get us started on the actual state of the world – it was no surprise that the night was also peppered with political messages. From the blue ACLU ribbons – the night's most important accessory – worn by many guests, including Riz Ahmed, Elisabeth Moss and Anthony Anderson, to the appearance by ex-White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer (the audience's reactions to which were even more entertaining than the bit itself). When Nicole Kidman took the stage to collect her award for Best Actress in a Limited Series or Movie, and she used her acceptance speech as an opportunity to raise awareness of domestic violence, something her character battled in Big Little Lies.

As far as the fashion went, just like politics, the red carpet was full of big statements. Feathered frocks reigned supreme, while Millie Bobby Brown looked like a full-on ballerina. And it wasn't just the dresses that were turning heads, our fave stars didn't shy away when it came to accessories either: from clutches to re-styled bandanas, check out our selection of the best red carpet accessories from the night.

From Nicole Kidman's Céline-style mismatched heels to Millie Bobby Brown's bandana belt, check out 5 accessories you'll want to steal from the Emmys Red Carpet.
