5 Trends From Haute Couture Fashion Week We Want Immediately

Return of the flower crown.

Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week has barely just begun and already our jaws have hit the floor multiple times. Though some designers are presenting their couture collections this week, others are showcasing their SS18 Ready-to-Wear lines, but from the quality of what we’ve seen so far, it’s hard to tell which is which.

We may not have the budget for an Atelier Versace sequin jumpsuit or a perfectly tailored Dior pantsuit, but we can still show our appreciation for our favorite runway collections by rocking lookalike accessories – the added bonus being that you can start wearing them right now, rather than having to wait half a year.

Check out our selection of key accessories and details from the Paris runway that we want to wear right now:

Skinny Belts @ Christian Dior

We love, love, loved this ‘40s-tinged collection from Christian Dior, no doubt a reference to the 70th anniversary of the iconic New Look collection that skyrocketed the house to fame in 1947, with its trimmed waistlines and angular shoulders. It was a theme that also inspired the recently revealed menswear collection, as well. This Couture Fall 2017 collection wandered into more romantic territories, too, with no small number of deep-plunge V-necks and chiffon ruffles among the looks. But one constant worn by nearly all the models was a very skinny leather belt with a trailing tail, looped neatly back on itself. Could this signal the end of the waist-hugging corset- and obi-belt phase we’ve seen in recent seasons?

Flower Crowns @ Rodarte

The flower crown may have taken a step back after Taylor Swift declared choker necklaces the new must-have festival Coachella accessory last year, but Rodarte made a strong case for a comeback of the floral headpieces. Okay, so you don’t have to rock the full lion’s mane, but a simple cluster of petals to clip back your bangs is a perfect wedding guest hairstyle – plus, you just can’t beat a classic wreath of roses for a music festival accessory.

Fancy Footwork @ Proenza Schouler

All eyes were on the ground at Provenza Schouler’s RTW SS18 collection, and with good reason. All the footwear ended in a chic, sharp point, but each shoe presented a new, exciting way to elegantly embellish your feet. We particularly loved the palette of monochromes with bursts of lavender and bright red, but it was the unexpected ruffles and beading that won our hearts.

Power Textures @ Atelier Versace

Atelier Versace’s couture collection was surprisingly un-Versace – in fact, it erred on the Balmain with its architectural, Art Deco structures and moody palette of bronze and black – but it didn’t fail to impress. While each of the looks was distinctly different, the theme that tied them all together was the blinding metallics and dazzling sequin surfaces – perfect for catching the setting summer sun at a roof terrace cocktail party this season.
