pajama pants

Most of us cannot imagine life without our pair of comfy pajama pants to snuggle up in on cold nights. What is life without being able to slouch on our couch in our sleepwear and watch a movie, while snacking on popcorn? But do we know the origins of our favorite sleepwear? It might be surprising that the garment originated in Persia and the word came to English via Bengali. It originally meant loose trousers tied around the waist. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries the garment was used first as lounge wear and then finally as sleep wear for men. Eventually women started to wear pajama pants as well, drawn by the cozy appeal of the loose trousers.
